by John Schinella
In 1964 John Schinella was one of the designers working in Chevy Studio #2, where the XP-830 design was developed principally by Larry Shinoda. The XP-830 later became the Mako Shark II which debuted at the New York International Auto Show in April 1965. It appears that John Schinella made some contributions to the XP-830 design as this image is known to have been presented as a part of an XP-830 design review.
This drawing is a rendering of the proposed Mako Shark II. Like many of Schinella's drawings, this one includes people; here an interesting female appears to be seated at an outdoor cafe with a guest, as the Mako Shark II slowly passes by. The Mako Shark II design later formed the substantial elements of the 1968 Corvette. The significant difference was that the boat tail sloped rear window was replaced with the scoop type treatment and backlight from Zora Duntovs mid-engine prototype.
